France to double number of climate trading plants
France is to more than double the number of installations subject to emission caps under the EU greenhouse gas trading scheme, it has emerged. A French environment ministry spokesperson told ENDS Europe DAILY on Friday that all combustion installations larger than 20 megawatts will now be included in a forthcoming revised national allocation plan (NAP). This will increase the number of installations covered from 650 to about 1500 and add between 27 and 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions to the previous volume of 126.3m tonnes. The revised NAP is expected to be sent to the European Commission at the beginning of November. See French environment ministry.
