Spain, Italy and Finland condemned by EU court
The European court of justice has condemned three member states for breaching EU environmental rules in separate judgements released on Thursday. Spain illegally omitted an environment impact assessment on a section of the new Valencia to Tarragona railway line. Italy is censured for failing to report on sewage sludge generation and its heavy metal content from 1995 to 1997. Finland is condemned for not transposing the 2001 EU deliberate release directive on GMOs. All three cases were brought by the European Commission. See judgements against Spain (C-227/01), Italy (C-248/02) and Finland (C-423/03).
