Danish minister accused of pork-barrelling
Denmark's public accounts committee has asked the national audit office to investigate claims that former environment minister Hans Christian Schmidt improperly channelled government funding into community projects in his own constituency, Politiken newspaper reports. The allegations were backed by the Parliamentary ombudsman last year, prompting an apology from Mr Schmidt, who is now agriculture minister. The auditors will also consider whether the government department concerned, the Danish forest and nature agency, failed properly to publicise the availability of the funding, Politiken says.
