Unspecified extra EU funding for Unep is also on the cards. The partnership is expected to strengthen global environmental governance, the Commission said in a statement. The EU has long supported a stronger mandate for Unep, for example as a counterweight to the World trade organisation (EED 18/02/02). See Commission press release and Unep.
