Industry rejects NGO's "toxic pyjamas" charge
American industry scientists have dismissed Greenpeace criticisms of the use of phthalate softeners in children's clothing. This spring a report written by Danish campaigners accused Disney corporation of "polluting practices" because it was selling children's wear containing "toxic substances" including phthalates (EED 15/04/04). Some Disney products were subsequently removed from sale in Denmark. In a response statement the American Chemistry Council insists that use of phthalates in clothing poses no health risk. "Have no fear of Disneywear" has been posted on the web by the Danish PVC industry association. See statement.
