EU body backs environmental technologies
Europe's advisory economic and social committee has backed EU action to develop environmental technologies. In a report adopted this week, the body said a "technological revolution" was needed if developing countries' "legitimate aspirations" for economic development were to be achieved. The report urges creation of an effective information exchange network. Consumer education is also needed to ensure that environmental technologies are seen by the public as effective both environmentally and economically, it says. The European Commission proposed an EU green technologies action plan earlier this year (EED 31/01/04). See press release.
