Industry and authorities begin dry run of Reach
EU authorities and industry groups started a joint exercise on 1 November to test the administrative workability of the EU's Reach chemical policy. Dubbed Sport, the initiative will use eight substances to try out the legislation before it enters force. Participants include chemical industry association Cefic and small firms' body Ueapme. Trade unions and environmental groups have been invited as observers. Final results are expected in mid-2005 but interim findings could emerge sooner. Sport was first announced in the summer (EED 12/07/04). See Cefic press release and Sport joint paper.
