UK urged to lead on ship scrapping, aviation

In separate reports issued this week, British parliamentary committees have called on the government to use its presidencies of the EU and G8 nations next year to promote environmental policies. One urged the government to "eradicate" what it called "irresponsible" ship dismantling in third-world countries. Another demanded that it tackle the climate change impacts of aviation, notably by bringing aviation emissions into the EU carbon trading scheme "as soon as possible.
