Blue Angel heat pump ecolabel launched

Germany's Blue Angel ecolabelling scheme, Europe's largest, has added gas-powered heat pumps to its portfolio of over 90 product groups. Heat pumps of up to 70 kilowatts output can qualify for the label, the German environment ministry said. They must pass "strict criteria" on use of refrigerants, energy efficiency and emissions of nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. Environment minister Jürgen Trittin welcomed the development, saying he hoped the label would help boost heat pump use, so helping to reduce fossil-fuel related emissions.
