Robust EU wind power growth in 2004
The EU wind power industry grew strongly again in 2004, installing close to record levels of new turbines, sector association Ewea reported on Thursday. Total capacity rose by just over 5,700 megawatts to 34,200 MW, capable, in an average wind year, of producing some 73 terrawatt hours of electricity. Even so, the sector's growth is behind track to meet its own target of 75,000 MW capacity by 2010 (EED 09/10/03). Ewea warned that further rapid growth by the industry was being constrained by grid access and adminstrative barriers. See press release and maps.
