Netherlands legislates on machinery emissions

The Dutch council of ministers on 28 January adopted emission limits on non-road mobile machinery including bulldozers, locomotives and inland shipping in line with a 2004 EU directive (EED 19/03/04). All member states should transpose the rules by 20 May. The directive will be implemented in the Netherlands from June, setting a first wave (III-A) of emission limits on carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and fine particles between 2005 and 2008. The standards are in line with developments in the USA, in order to avoid problems regarding world trade in machinery. See press release.
