EU asks for ideas on boosting biomass energy

In preparation for an action plan due later this year, the European Commission has launched a public consultation on boost biomass energy. Europe is not on track to meet current renewable energy targets, the Commission reported last year, in part because of slow growth in biomass energy (EED 26/05/04). It is looking for ideas for "strong and targeted measures and actions" that could add 32m tonnes of oil equivalent (Mtoe) biomass electricity, 24 Mtoe biomass heat and 18 Mtoe biofuels by 2010. The deadline for comments is 28 February. See consultation.
