Court advisor: Holland behind on nature laws

A European court advisor has backed European Commission complaints that the Netherlands has still not properly transposed the EU wild birds and habitats directives 24 and 11 years respectively after the legal deadlines. Advocate general Julianne Kokott's legal opinion now goes to a panel of judges for a ruling. The Netherlands broadly agreed that it had failed to fully transpose the directives. But Ms Kokott rejected Dutch claims that there was possible ambiguity in parts of the habitats directive. See opinion C-441/03.
