Pesticide makers go on charm offensive

EU pesticide manufacturers have launched a public relations campaign to boost awareness of the contribution their products make to sustainable development. The initiative comes ahead of a draft EU strategy on pesticides due from the European Commission in the second half of this year (EED 05/11/02). The "Common Ground" campaign, begun last week by the European crop protection association (Ecpa), is aiming to explain the benefits of its pesticides for pest control, food safety and affordability and farm wildlife.
