Spain transposes EU green electronics laws

Producers have criticised as "unrealistic" Spanish legislation approved on Friday transposing EU directives on electroscrap and hazardous substances in electronics manufacture. The government has maintained the 13 August 2005 deadline for industry to assume the costs of recycling new electrogoods, a spokesperson for trade association Anfel told ENDS Europe DAILY, whereas recent French and Danish legislation allows for a longer transitional period. More time is needed to draw up a complete register of producers so as to prevent a proliferation of free riders, the spokesperson said. See Environment ministry press release and Anfel.
