Commission clears national state aid packages

The European Commission last week approved UK government plans to give energy intensive agriculture and horticulture sectors a €687m rebate on Britain's 2001 climate change levy. The rebate is spread over ten years for agriculture and five for horticulture, and will be used to improve energy efficiency and cut CO2 emissions. The Commission also approved €8m in Czech state aid to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy. Measures to be financed include cleaner engines for buses and the construction of park and ride facilities. See UK and Czech press releases.
