Environmental health impacts "underestimated"

Current estimates that environmental factors are responsible for 2-5% of European mortality and morbidity are likely to be too low, European environment agency chief Jacqueline McGlade said on Monday. Speaking to a meeting of British health professionals, Professor McGlade said emerging understanding of multi-causality could shed more light on the issue, and that the agency was planning more work in the area. The EEA is also preparing a new series of case studies of application of the precautionary principle, for publication in 2007, she noted. See press release and speech.
