EU environmental project funding worth €146m for 2005 was announced by the European Commission on Monday. This is the second last funding round under the Life programme, which will be replaced by Life+ from 2007 (EED 22/02/05). This year, the Life-environment stream comprises 89 projects worth €71m, with nearly 40% of funds going on waste management. There are 54 Life-nature projects, worth €69m, most aiming to protect Natura 2000 sites. The remaining €6m goes to 15 projects outside the EU under the Life-third countries stream.
