Portugal will withdraw its complaint against Spain over the construction of a nuclear waste storage facility at the Almaraz nuclear plant following a deal brokered by the European Commission.

The settlement, announced by the Commission on Tuesday, involves a consultation process, during which Spain will “refrain from taking any measures that could be considered as irreversible by any of the parties to the settlement”. However, work can still continue on the site, a Commission spokesperson said.
