A legal dispute over a support scheme for renewables is threatening more than a hundred small hydro projects in Italy that had been declared eligible for incentives.

Support for 126 plants of up to 5 megawatts, representing some 80MW of capacity in total, has been suspended pending a final decision by Italy’s highest administrative court.

The state-owned company that manages renewables’ support in Italy, GSE, announced last week that it would appeal a judgement by the Lazio regional administrative court in July 2017 to exclude small hydro from the scheme.
