Wind and solar to dominate new EU energy - IEA

Solar will be the cheapest form of energy globally and represent more than 30% of new capacity in the next 25 years, while wind will be the main source of energy in the EU by the early 2030s

Solar is set to become the cheapest form of energy globally and could account for more than 30% of all new capacity in the next 25 years, while wind will become the main source of energy in the EU by the early 2030s, the International Energy Agency said in its World Energy Outlook 2017.

The CEO of trade association WindEurope, Giles Dickson, warned however that EU governments would need to provide "ambitious" energy and climate action plans with clarity on post-2020 volumes and auctions in order to realise the scenario outlined in the IEA's annual analysis of global trends.
