Members of the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament have launched a petition calling on the German government to follow France in unilaterally banning glyphosate within three years, after an EU vote saw the systemic herbicide’s European licence renewed this week.

The petition, launched by German lawmakers Sven Giegold and Martin Häusling, also calls for an immediate ban on the use of glyphosate for pre-harvest desiccation of crops, any application in public parks and playgrounds, and to prohibit its sale for private use.
