The Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament is seeking cross-party support to launch an appeal at the European Court of Justice (ECJ) against the recent re-authorisation of glyphosate, it announced on Thursday after presenting a legal report by a former United Nations Special Rapporteur, Olivier De Schutter.

An appeal board accepted last month a European Commission proposal to extend by five years the EU authorisation for the ubiquitous systemic herbicide after national governments repeatedly failed to agree a position. The European Parliament, meanwhile, called for an outright ban on the substance.
