The first study to use patent data to analyse green investment has revealed the positive impact of the Kyoto Protocol on low-carbon innovation.

European Patent Office president Benoît Battistelli said the number of climate mitigation technologies saw a dramatic boost after the Kyoto Protocol was signed in 1997.

An agreement at the Paris climate talks would likely have a similar effect, Mr Battistelli said as he launched the new study in Paris on Tuesday.
