The investigation into VW’s ‘dieselgate’ scandal has widened to include the company’s now chairman Hans Dieter Poetsch.

The Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office will examine alleged market manipulation by Poetsch when he was the group chief financial officer. A second member of the board is also under investigation but their name has not been released.

In a statement VW said: “Based on careful examination by internal and external legal experts, the company reaffirms its belief that the Volkswagen board of management duly fulfilled its disclosure obligation under German capital markets law.”
