Italian fuel tax concessions confirmed

Cabinet approves decree for temporary diesel duty rebate for road haulage industry

At its weekly cabinet meeting on Friday, the Italian government confirmed rebates on diesel tax for the road transport industry and subsidies for fishermen. Both moves were agreed with the industry sectors concerned earlier this month (ENDS Daily 18 September).

For commercial drivers, there is a euros 0.06 (IL120) per litre rebate on diesel fuel, effective from 1 September to the end of the year. The rebate will be applied to diesel purchased by taxi-drivers and local transport services, as well as private local, regional and national road transport operators.

Fishermen will receive a contribution from the state towards every litre of diesel purchased, in total worth more than euros 21m. Under the terms of the decree, the government is also allocating euros 41.3m to the sector as compensation for the damage to the fishing industry caused by pollution-induced algae in the Adriatic.
