DG Enterprise boosts openness on green issues

Web information posted by environmental unit of Commission's industry directorate

The environment unit of the European Commission's enterprise directorate this week launched new web pages designed to increase transparency. Though still some way behind the volume of information now routinely published on the internet by DG Environment, the new pages give a first public insight into DG Enterprise's approach to environment and sustainable development issues.

As well as a small listing of new studies and the unit's mission statement, the web pages include essays on environmental issues of concern to industry. These include climate change, integrated pollution prevention and control, waste management, product-related issues, eco-efficiency and environmental management tools, and environmental liability.

"We wanted to become more visible and to provide more information for stakeholders and for citizens," unit head Karl Georg Doutlik told ENDS Daily. The information posted would continue to be updated at least quarterly, he said, and expanded over time.
