Madrid hosts pollution modelling conference

Scientists discuss recent developments in environmental instrumentation

Scientists from all over Europe and beyond gathered in Spain this week for the First International Conference on Measuring and Modelling in Environmental Pollution (MMEP 97), which ended yesterday. Organised jointly by the Technical University of Madrid and the Wessex Institute of Technology in the UK, the conference included presentations on air quality monitoring, deposition and emission modelling, environmental instrumentation, indoor pollution and water pollution. According to the organisers, topics given special emphasis included recent developments in environmental instrumentation, such as new techniques for gas measurements and the use of fibre optics.
