EU hopefuls told to invest in greening

Countries preparing to join the EU have been urged to launch structured investment programmes to ensure compliance with the bloc's environmental rules. A European Commission communication on "environmental financing" adopted today puts the costs for ten leading applicants at euros 79-110bn.
