IPCC releases latest climate assessment

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the body which advises the United Nations, has published its latest report on climate change. The main conclusions of the 2000-page "third assessment" report have been known since last autumn when projections of an unprecedented acceleration in global temperatures were leaked ahead of international talks aimed at finalising the Kyoto protocol (EED 27/10/00). Since then the report's further conclusions on the likely impacts of rising temperatures and the scope for mitigation have been released in stages (EED 19/02/01). See the report.
