The European Commission said today it would create a multi-stakeholder committee to advise it on energy and transport polices. Originally proposed by transport ministers, the European energy and transport forum will bring industry operators, union representatives and environmental and consumer campaigners together to discuss competitiveness and restructuring in the sectors, with an emphasis on environmental, social and safety concerns. Among its main tasks will be to "organise and analyse debates and actions" relating to two major Commission initiatives: a recent green paper on energy security and a forthcoming transport white paper. See Commission press release.
