EU ecolabel for dishwashing detergents

New criteria for awarding the EU ecolabel to hand dishwashing detergents have been published. To win the label manufacturers will have to observe strict requirements, including a prohibition on the use of several surfactants, some fragrances and biocides. They will not be able to claim the product has an anti-microbial action, while surfactant content will be limited by volume and must be "readily biodegradable". Packaging size will be restricted and the label will have to urge consumers to immerse dishes rather than use running water. See EU ecolabel website and new criteria for dishwasher detergents.
