Energy efficiency boost due for Irish housing

Irish environment minister Noel Dempsey today announced a final round of consultation on plans to introduce tougher thermal performance and insulation standards for new homes. First proposed last year (EED 21/09/00), the standards are due to enter into force next July. Mr Dempsey said the stricter standards would help cut national carbon dioxide emissions by 300,000 tonnes per year by 2012, thus delivering on carbon savings projections set for the residential housing sector in Ireland's national climate change strategy (EED 03/11/00).
