EU policies are broadly supportive of national efforts to achieve sustainable urban development, but more needs to be done to achieve a significant increase in urban land re-use, concludes a report published today by the European Commission. Produced by an expert group, the report calls for new policies on urban land use, soil protection and remediation as well as targets, indicators and benchmarking to track progress. The issues it discusses will be picked up next week at an informal council on urban policy in Brussels. See report and informal council overview.
