Belgium gears up for nuclear phase-out

Green energy minister Olivier Deleuze is to submit draft legislation to the Belgian parliament before the end of the year to close the country's nuclear power stations when they reach 40 years of age. The decision comes days after the International energy agency advised Belgium to maintain a nuclear capability, warning that sufficient alternative renewable energy sources did not exist (EED 03/10/01).
