Green light for German trade waste law

The German cabinet today agreed a draft ordinance mandating higher levels of materials and energy recovery from industrial waste entering the municipal waste stream. The new law, which still needs approval from both parliamentary chambers, applies both to trade waste and some types of construction and demolition waste. Paper, glass, plastics and metals will have to be separated and a recovery rate of at least 85% achieved. German environment ministry tel: +49 30 285500, a press statement and the ordinance.
