Switzerland hosts alpine transport summit

Representatives of six European governments plus the European Commission met in Zurich on Friday to discuss the future of alpine road transport. Participants debated how to reduce environmental impacts while at the same planning for improvements to the economic performance of the alpine transport network, the Swiss transport ministry said. Tunnel safety and measures to move goods from road to rail topped the meeting agenda, which culminated in a declaration committing Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy to making progress in a number of areas.
