Welsh NGOs bicker over wind power

Tensions within Britain's green movement over wind power expansion boiled over yesterday, with environmental group Friends of the Earth (FoE) Wales attacking conservation groups for opposing construction of a new wind farm. Conservationists had "damaged their own case by the endless repetition of false claims" and "scaremongering exaggerations," said FoE, challenging groups to say where new wind farms should be built. Local opposition to wind farm development has been a key factor in holding back the sector's development in the UK, which has Europe's largest wind resource. See FoE.
