A service allowing electricity consumers anywhere in the world to buy a "green update" for the electricity they use was launched today by Dutch firm World Wide Green. Takers of the service will receive a guarantee of renewable energy production equivalent to their consumption, to be delivered through green certificate systems for renewable electrity operating in several countries. Disagreements over the definition of green electricity and the role to be played by government subsidies are holding back the establishment of a pan-European green certificates trading market (EED 31/07/00).
