Waste council to advise French government

French environment minister Yves Cochet yesterday announced creation of a 33-member national waste council. The council will advise the government on ways to reverse rising household waste output and reduce waste-related greenhouse gas emissions. Mr Cochet used inauguration of the council to draw attention to the ongoing rise in household waste arisings, highlighting that French citizens now generate on average one kilogram of waste every day. The council is made up of elected officials and citizens as well as waste and environmental protection experts. See French environment ministry.
