Conditions at 22 pollution hot spots in Finland and Sweden have been reviewed at a meeting in Stockholm organised by the Baltic environment protection commission, Helcom. All the sites or areas were defined in 1992. A number have already been deleted following efforts to reduce pollution, and four more could be removed from the list later this year. They include a metal smelter in each country, wastewater treatment plants in Stockholm and fish farms in Finland. Agricultural nutrient pollution was recognised as a key continuing source of concern.
