Development ministers outline key priorities for agreement at world sustainability summit

EU overseas development ministers have clarified the bloc's position on global sustainable development objectives ahead of the Johannesburg summit starting in late August. The council conclusions adopted yesterday are also aimed at influencing the final pre-summit preparatory talks now going on in Indonesia.

The conclusions focus on the external dimension of the EU sustainability strategy, emphasising key issues such as poverty reduction, making globalisation work for sustainable development and improving governance at all levels. A series of targets on health, access to safe water and affordable energy services are also set out.
