Review underlines "major challenges" in all areas, fuelled by rampant economic growth

Ireland's environment is under "considerable pressure", and the country faces "major challenges" if it is to meet its international obligations, such as for climate change, according to a second national environmental indicators report, released today. Key pressures have resulted largely from unprecedented economic growth, particularly in the energy and transport sectors, the Irish Environment protection agency (EPA) report says.
