Spain complies with EU car labelling rules

The Spanish cabinet on Friday passed a decree requiring all new cars to be labelled from 30 November to show their fuel consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Buyers will also receive a booklet, updated annually, listing the ten most efficient cars in terms of CO2 emissions for each type of fuel. Spain was one of eight EU countries that the European Commission last year threatened to take to court for failing to introduce such labelling by January 2001 as required by a 1999 EU directive (EED 02/08/01).
