EU ban on phthalate in toys renewed again

The EU's ban on the use of phthalate softeners in baby toys designed to be mouthed has been extended for a further period of three months running to 20 November. This is the eleventh time the order has been renewed since it was first introduced in 1999. Member states have still to reach agreement on whether to make the ban permanent or introduce limits on phthalate migration into children's saliva instead (EED 21/05/02). See Commission decision.
