Mechanisms for funding sustainable development outlined for UK financial market

A UK government-ordered report intended to provide a framework for financial institutions to invest in sustainable development projects was unveiled yesterday. Produced by NGO Forum for the Future, the report outlines the role of the financial sector in promoting sustainable development "not through their own environmental footprint but... in allocating financial capital between different economic activities".

A key outcome of discussions with the sector was the development of seven investment principles that finance companies should follow to help promote sustainable development.
