A UK panel has recommended greater use of agricultural products in various industrial applications, arguing that in each case this would promote sustainable development. In its first annual report, the government-industry forum on non-food uses of crops recommends greater use of biopackaging and more use of natural fibres in composite materials, particularly in the automotive industry. It also identifies possibilities to substitute petrochemical solvents with biosolvents in the printing industry, and to promote biolubricants for certain motors and offshore drilling operations.
