Austria transposes EU incineration law

The Austrian government has passed a new ordinance imposing stricter limits on emissions from waste and coincineration plants, transposing the 2000 waste incineration directive. These limits, which apply from 1 November 2002 for new plants and 28 December 2005 for existing ones, are stricter than those set by the directive, the environment ministry says. The new law effectively settles at least two outstanding cases brought by the European Commission against Austria over faulty implementation of EU laws on incineration of hazardous and municipal waste, it claims.
