EU nod for UK business energy efficiency scheme

The European Commission yesterday announced its approval of a UK decision to continue subsidising an energy efficiency best practice programme (EEBPP) to the tune of GBP17m (€26.9m) each year until the end of 2006. The programme provides grants for research and development into energy saving projects for non-domestic consumers. The Commission said the funding amounted to state aid but was justified under EU research promotion rules. See European Commission press release.
