Green light for Swedish clean fuel incentive

The EU council of ministers has approved a request by Sweden to promote low-emission alkylate petrol for two-stroke engines through a tax differential with conventional petrol. The council's decision states that the derogation to EU rules on mineral oil excise duties is in line with Community tax policies and maintains tax rates above minimum levels set in EU law. Its approval is in line with a European Commission recommendation issued in July (EED 15/07/02). See council decision.
